Softer Lips for Your Damn Self

Updated: May 28, 2020

I said what I said! There is always talk of kissable lips but you know what? Whether you have someone to kiss or not you should take care of your lips for you.

We all know to exfoliate our face, body, and even feet. But a lot of times we skip over our lips, wondering why they look so pale and flaky. So here are 8 products to help you lips feel their best! (Number 8 is my personal fave 😉)

Lip scrubs: In my experience, a lip scrub don't need to be a hefty investment piece. You can buy one, or if you're down for some DIY you can make your own. Currently, I'm still using my Innisfree Coffee Lip Scrub that has been sold out for a while but here are a couple lips scrubs I've enjoyed in months past. One you can buy and one you can make 🙌🏾

This product is definitely for you if you don't feel like making your own scrub but you want something that will exfoliate and moisturize. Lip scrubs weekly just to refresh my lips since I don't wear lipstick often but if you find yourself wearing pigmented lip products often, you might exfoliate more often.

Homemade Lip Scrub Recipe, $Custom

If you have or purchase a small jar, honey (or agave), coconut oil, and granulated sugar. You can make your own scrub.

Ingredients:

1 TSP Coconut Oil

1 TSP Honey (or agave)

1 TSP Granulated Sugar

Instructions:

1. Put all ingredients in a small bowl

2. Use a spoon or butter knife to fold ingredients together

3. Once mixed, transfer scrub into a small jar.

Tips:

1. If your jar ends up halfway full make another batch and add it to the jar to fill it.

2. Store in the fridge so the coconut oil doesn't melt the scrub at room temp.

Lip Masks: Similarly to how you'd use a face mask for extra nourishment for your face, your lips can get a moisture boost from a lip mask.

I love using this product a few times a week at night to give my lips a boost of moisture. A little goes a long way, so circle your finger in the pot a few times and swipe on your lips. If you need to layer more on, then repeat.

Fun fact: This double duty product can be used as a thicker balm in the winter months.

Laneige: Lip Sleeping Mask, $20

This classic lip mask was my first and it has a FOLLOWING. It tastes so yummy if some sneaks in your mouth and comes with a cute spatula so you don't have to get your hands sticky.

Use it at night and get ready to wake up with lips so moisturized you'll feel like you won't need a balm but please use a balm in the morning.

Lip Balms: Your daily moisturizer! Even though you can exfoliate and use masks it's important to moisturize your lips daily. Here are my current 3 favorite lip balms.

Then I Met You: Honey Dew Lip Mask, $22

Yes this product has mask in the title but it is really more of a balm. That being said it is wonderfully moisturizing. At first it goes on like a gloss but seeps in like a balm, never feeling sticky or gummy. I use this as a daily balm for moisturized lips during the day.

Reminder: A little goes a long way.

Glow Recipe: Watermelon Glow Lip Pop, $22

Looking at the description for this product you'll see that it is a scrub to balm formula. Please don't let that scare you! It is not scratchy but you will feel the light "scrub" upon application. Once fully applied (for me) the lips are so soft and there is this lovely pink tint that washes over the lips.

Note: There isn't a lot of product for the price but the product is wonderful. If you don't mind that I definitely say get it.

Don't be fooled by the lower price point. This is my favorite lip balm of all time. I have gone through over 7 tubes of this stuff. It doesn't create a film over the lips. It moisturizes all day so there is no need for multiple applications. You can even return the empty component post use to the Innisfree store for recycling and reward points for recycling 🙌🏾

Product #8

As always, saving the best for last, the best product to help your lips be moisturized, hydrated, supple is *drum-roll please*... WATER! Every item on this list so far has been a way to topically moisturize your lips. And while moisturizing is great, combining it with hydration from within is even better!

Phew we made it! Now, while these are my personal faves, I know that there are a TON more lip products in the world.

Let me know you faves in the comments!
